After two decades as a rental property, this duplex has finally received the renovation it deserves. The transformation, executed in two carefully planned phases, brings a fresh, modern aesthetic while preserving the integrity of the space.
The first phase focused on expanding the mezzanine, reimagining it as a versatile flex area. Given the challenge of limited natural light, the extension was designed to be suspended from a rod clamped onto the existing metal beam—an innovative approach that maintained the openness of the duplex’s common areas.
Next came the custom metal railing, a striking design element that was first test-fitted on-site before undergoing professional powder coating. The result? A flawless, rich creamy finish that elevates the overall look.
In the second phase, attention shifted to the floors. A meticulous hardwood refinishing process was undertaken to unify the three different wood types—red oak, white oak, and maple—under a cohesive whitewashed tone. The goal was to create a seamless flow throughout the duplex, enhancing its sense of warmth and continuity.
With the new mezzanine extension and refreshed flooring complete, the duplex has been transformed into a contemporary yet timeless space—proof that a thoughtful renovation can breathe new life into a well-loved home.
